Effective Management of Periodontal Diseases: An Evidence-Based State-of-the-Art Approach – Non-Surgical Therapy
A meticulous local examination is of fundamental importance for appropriate treatment planning and successful therapy. At least probing depths and bleeding upon probing should be recorded and documented using a periodontal chart. Treatment consists of different parts, where anti-infective therapy represents the cause-related approach and consists of a number of different measures. Among these, complete mechanical removal of the supra- and subgingival biofilm is of greatest importance. After local treatment patients should be guided and supervised to perform an appropriate oral hygiene, which will support healing and protect against recurrence of disease. The outcome of treatment will be evaluated by another local examination.
Learning Objective :
- Importance of a specific diagnostic concept
- Knowledge of the systematic therapeutic approach
- Knowledge of the different parts of non-surgical therapy
