Prof. Angus Walls
Angus Walls is a Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Edinburgh and Director of Edinburgh Dental Institute in Scotland. He is currently Immediate Past President of IADR and was awarded the IADR’s Distinguished Scientist Award for geriatric Oral Research in 2003. He has been a member of the UK Government’s Scientific Committee on Nutrition for 10 years, in this role he was instrumental in changing the UKs governments’ policies so that the current recommendation is that free sugars intake should be no more than 5% of dietary energy intake, this was adopted in 2015 and the UK’s Governments were the first to accept this recommendation as policy in accord with the recommendations of both the WHO and SACN. His
clinical and research interests focus on the oral health challenges and needs of the older person, particularly in relation to increasing frailty and the common risk factors for oral and systemic diseases including sugars.
